Theming In Progress
Making something work is one thing, but having it look the way you like is something else altogether. I've applied a theme to this thing with lovely drop down menus there is still too much unused space. Not to mention the place holder for the wiki graphic looks lonely hovering up there all by itself. The comments actually work on this site but I don't think it is very intuitive. They work like you expect in a wiki, hidden on another page so no one has to see them. I need them on the bottom of the page like in Wordpress. So much to work on. After getting some of these issues out of the way I would like to enable different default pages with different themes on this site depending on what URL is used to access it. I don't know how I am going to do that yet.
Inception
I used to have a Wordpress blog that I liked but I lost it because I failed to back it up. No sense crying over split milk though. I intend to make this site be so much more than that blog ever was. I'm running it using MediaWiki for a few reasons.
- I would like to put some rich content in here, more than just some words and pictures. MediaWiki is all about structured knowledge. When it comes to structured documents it doesn't get any better than this.
- The best plugins for building containers for information are MediaWiki plugins. This is hugely significant since I would like to fill this wiki with some rich content.
- I administer a MediaWiki installation at work. Though I like learning about new pieces of software I would rather develop some expertise in a few of them.
This wiki is going to be a dumping ground for whatever information I might want to share. There is a lot of work for me to do on this dog and pony show yet so stay tuned.
